Code Studio is a planning consulting firm specializing in the preparation of development codes. Selected by the City of Memphis and Shelby County to update their zoning code, the firm has been working with their own team of subconsultants, along with City staff and an advisory committee, on a new draft code. The Broad Avenue Corridor planning initiative provides the opportunity to test some of the new zoning concepts on real sites.

Their spectacular results on Columbia Pike in Arlington, Virginia are just one example of the firm's expertise. Mary Madden and Geoffrey Ferrell will head up the team of consultants charged with running the charrette and preparing the master plan for the Broad Avenue Corridor planning initiative.

Urban Advantage communicates the principles of Smart Growth to non-professional audiences through photo-realistic illustration. Using photo-editing software, he modifies photographs of existing landscapes, superimposing photographs of architecture, trees, people, transit vehicles and other components of an urban landscape to create before-and-after visions of positive change. During the 1980s he worked as a technical illustrator for Silicon Valley companies including Apple Computer, Next Computers, Hewlett Packard, and Logitech. Then in the early 1990s, with a degree in sociology and a concern about the social effects of sprawl, Steve capitalized on his skills in computer graphics and started creating instructional illustrations about walkable urbanism. In 1997 Steve co-founded Urban Advantage with new urbanist author Peter Katz.

Third Coast Design Studio is an urban design and architecture firm with extensive experience in public sector projects.  As the former director of the Metro Nashville Planning Department’s Design Studio, Third Coast principal Keith Covington has applied form-based codes to implement detailed neighborhood plans in several of Nashville’s urban neighborhoods.

Rick Hall is a practicing, registered transportation engineer dealing with planning, design and regulatory issues in the transportation field. Rick has also developed conceptual designs for major roadways and bridges where design standards were applied. This experience, combined with new urbanism consulting through numerous charrettes with DPZ and others yield a thorough understanding of sustainable transportation design. He is also a visiting professor at Florida State University's Department of Urban and Regional Planning where he teaches land use and transportation courses.
